BGYouth Mission Trip 2024 July 14-19

Newark, New York…

This year’s BG Youth mission trip will be to Newark, NY July 14-19, 2024. The trip is hosted by Group Missions, an organization that runs many such weekly trips each year at various sites around the country. Last year a group of 9 people from the BG youth group went on this same trip, but in Pittsburgh, PA. During the week, several youth groups will be working together as part of this same trip, all hosted at one location by Group Missions. Participants will be doing various community service projects each day, along with attending Group Missions run services each morning and evening. Our youth group will do daily devotions and debriefings together. Students must be 11 years old or entering 6th grade to participate. Many trip details can be found online https://groupmissiontrips.com/trip-types/community-service/newark-new-york.

The adult leaders for the trip are Alan Pauling (akp3@cornell.edu) and at least one female adult 21 years old or older, to be determined. Group Missions requires a 5 to 1 student to adult ratio. If the group is larger than 10 students, then we will need more adults to attend. Alan has participated in several Group Missions trips in the past and can answer many questions you have that aren’t covered in the web page linked above.

Total cost of the trip is estimated to be $460 each. This includes Group Missions registration costs ($348 each), transportation costs, some meals and a fun team activity (Seabreeze amusement park in Rochester is my first choice). Final team costs will be determined once team size is finalized, and we know if we will need a second vehicle or not (the BG van will be used but may need another if group size is larger than 10).

Deadlines for making decisions for this trip are a bit flexible, though the sooner decisions can be made the better. Registration money is non-refundable after May 15, though we can register people up to a week before the trip. However, we need to plan for leaders and transportation, and fundraising, so please register on the youth group website by June 16, 2024 at the latest. If we are unable to add leaders or transportation, I may have to limit the number of students attending.

Alan will be collecting the money for the trip and turning it in to the Bethel Grove treasurer, Beth Thorp. Checks can be made out to “Bethel Grove Bible Church” and are tax deductible. BG will be paying Group Missions directly. Students are encouraged to participate in fundraising, either as a group or individually. Once the group roster is finalized, we will hold periodic team meetings to prepare for the trip. We will also have fundraising opportunities that students can be a part of to pay for the trip. We will need an adult to oversee the fundraising events or an individual event.

It should be a great week of service, learning more about Jesus and growing as a group. I hope you can join us.
